In a devastating turn of events, a Lagos-based car dealership owned by businessman Gift Osawota was violently attacked by thieves and hoodlums on March 18, 2023.
The incident resulted in the destruction of the dealership’s inventory and plunged Osawota into severe financial debt and personal danger. The attackers targeted multiple businesses in the area, setting vehicles on fire and causing extensive damage.

Osawota had recently acquired a number of cars for buyers who had paid in full, exacerbating the financial fallout from the attack. Unable to repay the buyers immediately, Osawota started receiving death threats from disgruntled customers. On the night of his birthday in 2023, he narrowly escaped an attack at his home.
Assailants, who mistakenly believed he was home, stabbed his younger brother who had answered the door. A neighbor rushed the injured brother to the hospital and alerted Osawota to the imminent danger.
