The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), Dr. Charles Akinola, has urged Nigeria’s business community and policy leaders to forge stronger and intentional partnerships to accelerate the nation’s economic and social transformation.
He made the call while delivering the keynote address at the maiden annual lecture of the Alumni Association of the University of Ibadan School of Business.

The event, with the theme: ‘The Power of Collaboration: Alumni as a Catalyst for Business Growth and Societal Transformation, and Building Legacies’, also featured presentations by former Managing Director of First Bank Nigeria, Dr Adesola Adeduntan; as well as Dr Adebola Akindele; and Mr Godwin Odah.
“Business provides energy, innovation, and risk appetite; policy provides stability, scale, and systems. Imagine alumni of business schools and alumni of policy schools working hand-in-hand; one designing sustainable business models, the other shaping regulatory frameworks to help them flourish,” he stated.
The SWDC chief also outlined how the Commission is operationalising collaboration in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He revealed that the One Economic Bloc Strategy seeks to merge the economies of the six South West states into a unified regional market for goods, skills and investment.
