He also commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for what he described as his visionary leadership and professionalism in driving the expansion initiative.
According to Buratai, the Army chief’s efforts reflected a deep understanding of contemporary security dynamics, and demonstrate a commitment to repositioning the Nigerian Army to address emerging security challenges.
While welcoming the expansion, Buratai urged the military high command to complement the increase in personnel and formations with investments in advanced military capabilities.
“The military must expand its capabilities in missile warfare, drone warfare, cyber operations and information warfare in line with evolving global security threats and future warfare dynamics,” he said.
He further called on officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to embrace the initiative with discipline, professionalism and dedication, stressing that the expansion would not only enhance national defence but also improve troop welfare and the military’s capacity to respond swiftly to security threats.
Expressing optimism about the impact of the government’s decision, the retired Army chief said: “May this expansion bring lasting peace and security to every Nigerian.”
