Former Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retd) has felicitated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as a humble, courageous and selfless leader committed to the service of Nigeria.
In a goodwill message to mark the Vice President’s milestone birthday, Buratai praised Shettima’s simplicity and humility in public office, saying his leadership style is rooted in service rather than the privileges associated with high office.
According to the former Army Chief, Shettima has distinguished himself by remaining connected to ordinary Nigerians despite occupying one of the country’s highest political offices.
“Your Excellency walks among the people, not above them,” Buratai stated. “In doing so, you have earned a place in our hearts that no title can confer.”
Buratai also commended the Vice President for what he described as his steadfast courage in confronting the challenges facing the country, as well as his loyalty and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the partnership between President Tinubu and Shettima had continued to provide hope and stability at a critical period in the nation’s development.
The retired general further praised Shettima’s empathy for vulnerable and marginalised Nigerians, noting that his concern for the less privileged was genuine and extended beyond political considerations.
Buratai described the Vice President as a resourceful statesman capable of turning difficult circumstances into opportunities in the interest of the country.

He said Shettima’s approach to leadership demonstrated that effective public service could be anchored on compassion, courage, humility and a strong sense of responsibility.
The tribute also echoed Shettima’s recent appeal for Nigerians to mark his 60th birthday with prayers and acts of charity rather than elaborate celebrations.
Buratai urged Nigerians to honour the occasion by remembering the less privileged and offering prayers for peace, stability and progress in the country.
“As you celebrate this significant milestone, my family, friends and associates join me in praying that Almighty Allah continues to bless you with robust health, boundless wisdom, and the strength to serve our great nation for many more years,” he said.
The former Army Chief congratulated the Vice President on attaining the milestone, praying that the new decade would bring him greater fulfilment in his service to humanity and the nation.
“Congratulations, Your Excellency. May this new decade bring you greater fulfilment and the enduring satisfaction of a life well-lived in service to humanity,” Buratai said.
