Buhari wins Sokoto with 490,333 votes; Atiku secures 352,694

The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari has won Saturday’s presidential election in Sokoto State.

The incumbent president polled a total of 490,333 to edge his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 352,694 votes.

The State Collation Officer, Prof. Yakub Yahusa, who announced the results at Sultan Maccido Qur’anic Institute, Sokoto, on Monday said the total registered voters in the state stood at 1,895,266 while voters who were accredited were 950,147.

He added that total votes cast stood at 925,940 while 871,891 were the total valid votes during the presidential election. He said 54,049 were recorded as invalid votes.

The results show that the APC candidate garnered more votes in no fewer than 18 local government areas while Atiku Abubakar of PDP secured highest votes in the remaining five LGAs.

Similarly, the APC candidates won the three senatorial seats in the state and seven House of Representatives seats while PDP won two seats.
