Vice-presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi has said he lost the 2022 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election because he relied on President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise.
He made the disclosure during an interview on Mainland FM in Lagos, a clip of which is currently trending on X.
Amaechi said the winner, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, did not clinch the APC ticket because he was stronger.
He described his reliance on the president’s promise as a “mistake”.
The former Rivers governor said, “The reason Tinubu won the APC presidential primary in 2022 was that I made a mistake by listening to late President Buhari.”
On what he was promised, Amaechi said, “Buhari told me not to campaign and that he was going to announce me as his candidate. He told me that and put it in writing.”
Daily Sun recalls that Tinubu clinched the ticket with 1,271 votes, followed by Amaechi with 316 and then-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo with 235.
