The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has said former President Muhammadu Buhari presented himself as a disciplined and incorruptible individual.
This was contained in the tributes that the YCE paid to Buhari, through its Secretary-General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole.
He stated that the Yoruba elders were grieved at the announcement of the demise of Buhari.
The council recalled that the deceased was the number one citizen in Nigeria at various times, both as a military head of state and as a civilian president.
According to the YCE, as military head of state, the council remembered that Buhari “presented himself as a disciplined and incorruptible individual, who, between him and his lieutenant, the late General Tunde Idiagbon, did their best to wash Nigeria clean of the indiscipline that appears endemic in our society.

“The Head of State, at that time, abhorred corruption and made it a point to redirect the mind of Nigerians, only for the masters of corruption to plan against him and remove him from office through a coup d’état.
“Be that as it may, we observe that his coming as civilian head (President) did not advance this nation as expected.
“But he did what he could within a limited administrative knowledge. We pray that his soul will rest well in paradise.”
