Philanthropist and Chairman of BUA group, Alhaji Abdul Samad-Rabiu, has begun construction of a N250 million administrative block and conference hall at Al-Qalam University Katsina.
Samad-Rabiu’s philanthropic initiative, Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR Africa) performed the ground-breaking ceremony at the university premises on Thursday.
ASR Africa had in 2022 announced the launch of its 2023 Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS), which covers 22 tertiary Institutions in Nigeria including Al-Qalam University.
Speaking at the ceremony, ASR Africa Managing Director, Dr. Ubon Udoh, said that education was one of the priority areas of intervention of the group.
He said that the ASR Africa was initiated by the business mogul in 2021 to provide sustainable and impact-based solutions to developmental issues affecting health, education and social development within Africa.
According to him, the Chairman of ASR Africa is committed to supporting quality education within the tertiary education system in Nigeria and Africa.
He commended the management of the university for their cooperation with the ASR Africa Infrastructure team, by providing prompt feedback and required documentation on the project to ensure its take-off.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yauri, commended the Chairman of ASR Africa and the BUA Group for finding their institution worthy of the grant.
He emphasised that the project, identified by the University, is one of its priority needs, as the University was set to launch its College of Allied Health Sciences for the 2023/2024 academic year.
According to Musa-Yauri, “hence the need for a befitting infrastructure for the laudable purpose.
“Upon completion of this project, staff and students under the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Nursing Science, Public Health, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Optometry and Medical laboratory Science in the 2023/2024 academic year, will have lecture rooms and offices for their programmes.”
