Babcock University’s Department of Marketing and Communication hosted the 7th edition of its Youth Empowerment Programme, with the theme: “Cultivating Excellence in Youth,” at the Amphitheatre.
The event brought together students from 20 schools in Lagos and Ogun States, with participants joining both physically and online, providing a platform for social interaction, learning, and idea exchange.
Guest speaker Prof. Awoyemi Lawal-Arolowo emphasized the importance of resilience, adaptability, innovation, and self-belief. “Remember, whatever you believe you can achieve, you can,” she encouraged participants.
Prof. Olugbenga Idowu, Associate Vice President of ITCT, representing the Senior Vice President, Management Services, Prof. Yacob Haliso, urged students to strive for excellence while highlighting their vital role in society.
The event featured student debates, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication. Babcock Academy emerged as the winner, with Joy Cometh Schools, Ikorodu, and Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode, securing second and third positions, respectively.
Dr. Joshua Suleiman, Director of the Department of Marketing and Communication, presented awards to the students, commending their outstanding performance and confidence in delivery.
Meanwhile, Global Vision Support International and Springtime Development Foundation are teaming up to provide a free medical outreach programme in Osun State, Nigeria.
This initiative is part of Global Vision Support International’s ongoing efforts to provide healthcare services to those in need.
Since 2017, the organization has carried out 140 outreaches and provided medical care to over 150,000 patients in Nigeria, performing over 2,000 surgeries, including eye, fibroid, hernia, and lump removals.
According to the President, Global Vision Support International, Prof. John Sotunsa, the upcoming medical outreach program is scheduled to take place from April 13th to 17th, 2025.
He explained that on the 13th, the programme will be held at Inisha town, while from the 14th to 17th, it would take place at the Ede Town Hall.
Prof Sotunsa said the target at the forthcoming medical outreach is to provide free consultations and treatment to 2000 persons, glasses to 1200 persons, 50 fibroid surgeries, 100 hernia repair and lump removal and 50 cataract surgeries while dental services will be provided for 100 persons, too.
According to Professor Sotunsa, who is also the Provost of the Benjamin Carson College of Health and Medical Sciences, Babcock University, all those in need are urged to visit the designated centres on the specified dates.
Prof. Sotunsa said it was important to note that those requiring surgery will need to provide their lab test results while blood would be provided by participants if needed.
“The treatment will, however, be on a first-come, first-served basis,” he added.
