For the over 1,000 graduating set of 2024, Babcock University (BU), Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, the Annual Career Fair was an opportunity for them to tap from the wealth of experience of several experts in different fields.
The one-week annual career fair organized by BU Alumni and Connectivity Directorate in collaboration with Coral graduating class featured activities such as rally and concert, employability scheme and games night, employability scheme, experience and Yaart, recruitment and empowerment, sports day and thanksgiving service.
Experts in different fields, which include some Alumnus, shared their experiences with the graduating class while agents of some foreign universities were also on ground to canvass for postgraduate admissions with mouth-watering offers.
The Director of Alumni and Connectivity Directorate, Dr. Jonathan Dangana said the essence of the career fair is to enable the graduating students to interface with experts and know much about the labour market.
“It is an annual event for our graduating set. We bring different experts to share their experiences with the students and prepare their minds for the labour market. When they get to the labour market, they will meet young people and will be able to network,” Dr. Dangana stated.
He said the expectation of the university management is to see their students succeed in their chosen fields and described the feedback from Babcock graduates as wonderful and has helped in planning for future annual fairs.
Dangana explained that the presence of foreign universities at the fair would help their students who are ready for postgraduate admissions to make the right decision.
An Alumnus and Chief Media Officer of Foremedia, Omolala Philip-Okpokoro gave the graduating class tips on how to succeed after their university education and how she navigated the labour market after graduation from BU.
The tips include having plans for the future, adding value to whatever they do, they should note that nothing lasts forever, have an open mind, plans for personal development, work with their soft skills, be contented with what they have and build relationships.
Another Alumnus of BU, Mercy Familusi warned the students that they would face challenges after school and that how they overcome it matters.
Familusi urged the graduating students to learn to network with others and that there breakthrough could come through such contact, especially older people for knowledge and experience.
She advised them that their career would bloom some if they are resourceful, adding, “nothing, “should stay on your way to success.”
