Bring on Super Eagles, Rohr charges

Rohr

Gernot Rohr has said the Super Eagles will seek revenge against Benin, but he is confident his team is prepared for a tough game in Uyo tomorrow.

Rohr warned his former team is far from a beaten team despite the 2-1 win Benin posted in June. “Nigeria is not a conquered team, far from it,” he sounded out.

“We beat them three months ago, they will certainly have a spirit of revenge which can be important and that’s normal.

“They didn’t have some players who are there now – Ekong, the captain, Osimhen who will be there this time, he wasn’t there last time, Ola Aina is also there now.

“It will be a stronger team than the one we beat in June in Abidjan. We are aware.”

He therefore said he expects a tough match against the Super Eagles.

“At home, they are under pressure to get a result now after a series of draws or even defeats. There was another change of coach, that’s it, so we will prepare well,” he said.

“It’s not because we know the opponents that it will be easy to beat them.

“It will be a difficult match, but we are preparing well.”

However, Rohr said he is concerned about the availability of defender Mohammed Tijani, who is nursing a sprained ankle.

The experienced Switzerland-based central defender played an important role in the famous 2-1 win over the Super Eagles in June.

His place is likely to be taken by Olivier Verdon.
