Xi returns to Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, received in audience the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
During the meeting, President Xi and the WTO Director-General deliberated on China’s role and support for the reforms of the WTO.
Disclosing the outcome of the meeting in a post on X, Okonjo-Iweala said: “Excellent follow-up with H.E. President Xi Jinping on China’s role in and support for @wto reforms.”
The former Nigerian Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy further said President Xi reiterated the importance to global trade of a reformed and well-functioning multilateral trading system and China’s support.
“Thank you, Mr President,” Okonjo-Iweala stated.

Having successfully completed his participation at the BRICS Summit, President Xi, on Sunday, 13 September 2026, returned to Beijing.
In a statement issued on his arrival, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “On the evening of 13 September 2026, President Xi Jinping returned to Beijing after successfully concluding his attendance at the 18th BRICS Summit.
“Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee Cai Qi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and other accompanying officials returned on the same flight.”
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said at noon on 13 September 2026, local time, President Xi Jinping departed India after successfully concluding his attendance at the 18th BRICS Summit.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry added that upon departure from New Delhi, senior Indian government officials saw President Xi off at the airport.
It further said on the way to the airport, local Chinese nationals, people of Chinese descent and representatives of Chinese enterprises waved the national flags of China and India, warmly congratulating President Xi Jinping on the successful conclusion of his attendance at the 18th BRICS Summit.
