BREAKING: Tinubu notifies Senate of increase in proposed 2025 budget

President Bola Tinubu has notified the Senate of an increase in the proposed 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion—which he initially presented to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024—to N54.2 trillion.

He made the adjustment known in separate letters addressed to both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and read during plenary by Senate President Godwill Akpabio on Wednesday.

Tinubu explained that the budget increase is due to additional revenues generated by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) N1.4trillion, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) N1.2trillion and other Government Owned Agencies, N1.8trillion.

Ruling on the letter, Sen. Akpabio referred it to the Senate Committee on Appropriations and directed them to expedite the change in the 2025 budget proposal which is currently under review In the Senate.

He assured that the budget will be passed before the end of February.
