The kidnapped pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after weeks in captivity, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga has disclosed.
Onanuga tweeted via his verified X handle @aonanuga1956: “Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors”.
The victims were abducted during an attack on schools in the area on May 15, an incident that sparked widespread concern and calls for urgent intervention.
One teacher was reportedly killed during the ordeal, while security agencies had been working to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The Oyo State Government and security authorities had earlier dismissed false claims that the abductees had been rescued, insisting that efforts were still underway to bring them home safely.
