The respite enjoyed by residents of Barkin Ladi local government areas of Plateau state was truncated on Wednesday as a 17-year Fulani boy and 34 cattles he was herding were killed.

Another person was said to have been injured in the same attack reportedly perpetrated by gunmen said to be on motorbike between Nafan village in Fan District and Doruwa Babuje in Ropp District of the local council

It was gathered that the gunmen opened fire on the boy and his cows as they sped by.

Reacting to the development, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in a statement signed by his Director of Press Affairs, Gyang Bere, said he received the new with rude shock.

Governor Mutfwang while sympathizing with the deceased family, condemned in totality the acts of lawlessness and said the unholy act undermines government’s effort in entrenching harmonious living among all and sundry in the state.

He said his administration will no longer tolerate brutal killings of innocent citizens either in their farms on in any parts of the state while pursing their legitimate means of livelihood.

Mutfwang directed security agencies to hunt and track down the perpetrators of the heinous crimes and ensure justice for the victims.

He urged traditional, community and religious leaders as well as youths and women in the affected communities to collaborate with other stakeholders to commence dialogue and restore normalcy while criminal elements within the communities should be exposed to face the full wrath of the law.

Mutfwang expressed heartfelt condolences to the affected families and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and heal the injured.

The latest incident is coming less than three months after gunmen overran three local governments of Barkin Ladi, Bokkos and Mangu on Christmas Eve killing more than 200 people.
