Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has again stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned National Convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The convention is meant to elect new national officers to steer the affairs of the party.
A former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, had, in an ex parte motion moved by his lawyer, Jephthah Njikonye, SAN, prayed the court for an interim order stopping the planned convention, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The trial Judge, Justice Peter Lifu, in a ruling on Tuesday, held that the application of the plaintiff has merit and succeeds.

Consequently, the judge restrained the PDP from convening its planned National Convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring and recognising the November 15 and 16 national convention scheduled to hold on 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, pending the hearing of the substantive suit filed by the plaintiff, which is pending before the court.
Justice Lifu said the plaintiff, who is a bona fide member of the party and has an interest in the position of the national chairman of the party, will suffer more if the prayers contained in the motion are not granted by the court.
Justice Lifu stated that he had no reason to digress from the decision of Justice James Omotosho, also a judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered on October 31, 2025, which halted the PDP’s national convention and restrained INEC from monitoring and recognising the convention.
