Brazil: Plane crashes into residential building, 62 passengers reported dead

Tragedy struck in Brazil on Friday as a plane with 62 passengers crashed in the state of São Paulo, killing all on board.

The doomed airliner was flying to the main airport in São Paulo city from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná when it crashed into the Vinhedo, the Voepass.

BBC reports that footage circulating on social media shows the aircraft spiralling out of control as it took a downward plunge. Authorities revealed that it landed in a residential area, but no one on the ground was injured.

Per the report, there were 58 passengers and four crew members on the Voepass airline flight when the plane crashed.

According to local authorities close to Valinhos, near the city of Vinhedo, all the passengers in the plane died in the crash.

Speaking on the incident, the airline disclosed that the aircraft took off from Cascavel/PR bound for Guarulhos Airport, with 58 passengers and four crew members on board.

“Voepass has activated all means to support those involved. There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board,” it shared.

After being notified of the crash, the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, held a minute’s silence.

Commenting in a social media post, he said: “Very sad. All my solidarity to the families and friends of the victims.”

It was also revealed by officials that while one home in the local condominium complex was damaged, none of the residents sustained injuries.
