Asks commissioners to hand over to Permanent Secretaries
From Timothy Olanrewaju, Maiduguri
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has dissolved the State Executive Council and relieved all commissioners of their appointments.
The dissolution of the state cabinet was announced on Monday through a statement by the Secretary to the Borno State Government (SSG), Hon. Bukar Tijani.
“The decision is to provide an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections,” the SSG disclosed in the statement.

He said the governor has already directed all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries “on or before Friday, April 3, 2026.”
Zulum expressed his appreciation to the commissioners for their dedication, commitment, and contributions to the development of Borno and its people.
On February 26, at the first Regular State Executive Council meeting for the year 2026, Zulum hinted that the meeting was the last official roundtable with the commissioners. The governor, in his address, which appeared like a valedictory speech, announced that he may not hold any official meeting with the cabinet members again in his capacity as governor of the state.
Zulum, who was sworn in on May 29, 2023, for a second term as the sixth elected governor of Borno State, leaves office on May 29, 2027.
