The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Borno and Yobe states chapter, has donated large consignment of drugs and medical consumables to Borno State government to support efforts to tackle cholera outbreak in the state.
Leader of the AANI delegation and former Borno State Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio said members of the National Institute in the chapter put resources together to support ongoing efforts by the state government to contain cholera in the state.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the state government, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr Shettima Mohammed, accompanied by members of the State Cholera Response Team, commended AANI for the intervention.
He assured AANI that the drugs and medical supplies will be promptly distributed to the identified cholera hotspot communities to support current response and help save lives.
Borno has reported 74 deaths from 7,850 suspected cases of cholera as at June, according to the state Ministry of Health. But the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) puts the death figure at 90 from more than 12,000 cases since the outbreak was first reported early May.
