A popular herbal medicine practitioner in Borno State, Mallam Garba Maidawa, has faulted medical doctors for telling patients that some sicknesses have no cure.
Maidawa said in an interview with Daily Sun in Maiduguri yesterday that many people had died because of such pronouncements by orthodox medical practitioners.
According to him, patients with life-threatening conditions often give up when told their illness cannot be cured. He said the statement weakens their will to seek treatment and survive.

“They said there is no cure for some sicknesses. This is not so. There is always a solution. Why can’t we search more? Muslims are told in the Holy Qur’an that all sicknesses have a cure. We must stop killing people with this pronouncement that there is no cure,” he maintained.
He claimed many medical doctors are either hindered by institution and other challenges or prevented from conducting researches that could lead to solutions to some ailments.
He said herbal medicine is still potent in tackling some health conditions considered as incurable. He, however, expressed concern that many erroneously assumed traditional medicine is bad.
He called for synergy between the orthodox and traditional medical practitioners to push up research in providing solutions to all health challenges.
