Borno: Five soldiers killed as terrorists attack military base

Five soldiers have been killed during an attack on a military location in Borno State by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

A group of ISWAP terrorists invaded a military base at Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government of Borno the early hours of Friday

Acting spokesman of the Joint Task Force Northeast Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Lt Col Haruna Sani said the terrorists stormed the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Mandaragirau amid rainstorn at about 3am.

“Regrettably, in the course of the battle, five gallant soldiers paid the supreme price during the intense firefight and close-quarter engagement,” he disclosed.

He said some equipment were also affected by the firefight. .

He said troops responded with a fierce counter-offensive, decisively to frustrate.

“Troops remain firmly in control of the FOB and continue to dominate the general area, while exploitation operations are ongoing for consolidation,” he disclosed.
