A coalition of non-political organisations in Borno, Southern Borno Concerned Citizens’ Forum has urged interest groups in the state to unite ahead of the 2027 governorship polls despite their political and social differences.
National Chairman of the forum, Alhaji Bulama Sawa disclosed this yesterday to newsmen in Maiduguri, while commenting on the retention of the deputy governorship seat in the Southern Borno Senatorial zone by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He appealed to the people to appreciate the political inclusiveness of the APC in Borno and urged citizens in the zone to support the choice of the party’s governorship running mate from the area.
He had, earlier in a statement, commended the APC leadership for embarking on a tour of the four local government areas and five emirate councils, which constitute the Southern Borno. He described the visit as not only a political engagement but an effort to cement the unity of the state.
“It was a remarkable homecoming that united the people of Southern Borno in appreciation to the APC for recognising one of their finest sons as the APC’s running-mate,” Sawa said.
He disclosed that the APC team led by the governorship candidate, Alhaji Mustapha Gubio and his running mate, Alhaji Ali Abdullahi Isa, visited all the traditional rulers and held conversations with community leaders, political stakeholders and other leaders in the area to strengthen unity of the state.
Sawa described the reception accorded the delegation by the traditional institutions and people across the emirates as unprecedented and one of the defining moments of the visit.
He noted that the appreciation tour demonstrated the unity and solidarity of the Southern Borno community.
He said the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Umar Mustapha II further authenticated the family background of the party’s running mate as truly from Southern Borno.
Isa’s nomination as the APC governorship running mate had initially raised dust as some citizens from the southern Borno disclaimed his lineage with the area.
