The governorship ambition of former Minister of State for Petroleum and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Timipre Sylva has received a huge boost with about 400 Chiefs from various Council of Chiefs in Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas endorsing him for governor.

The delegates of the Council of Chiefs  drawn from Okoroma, Egweama, Okoroba, Odioma, Liama. Obioku, Beletiama, Fantuo, Okpoama Kingdom, Opu- Nembe, Kingdom, Nembe City and Akassa among others after deliberations which lasted three hours threw their weight behind Sylva and affirmed him as the candidate of the two local government areas.

Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, the Chairman of Opu- Nembe Council of Chiefs, Chief Yousuo Donald Theo- Iruo explained that they have decided on a political course for the people of the area.

He noted that in view of the forthcoming governorship election, it was imperative for the people of the two local government areas who are Nembe speaking to make a statement on the direction the people should go.

According to him, they are not just going to make political statements but they have resolved to go back to their various communities and mobilise their people to vote massively for Sylva because he represents the best opportunity to enthrone lasting development in Bayelsa State.

“We are about 400 Chiefs on a delegates basis that attended the conference and we have decided to go back to our various councils to implement our resolution to vote massively for Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC.

“The entire Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas want to endorse and affirm that the Chiefs Council in Nembe and Brass have decided to adopt, affirm and endorse Chief Timipre Sylva as the candidate for these two Local Government Areas

“We have made this affirmation that we will all go back to our communities to ensure that Timipre Sylva is elected. There is no alternative to Sylva as far as these councils are concerned. We believe that in Timipre Sylva, communities in these two local government areas and the people of these areas would have a face in the governance of our state.

“In Sylva, we also strongly believe that the dividends of democracy will go round to all the nooks and crannies of Bayelsa State and not only the Nembe- speaking people. We also want to reaffirm our strong belief and conviction in Timipre Sylva because having him in his first tenure when he was governor, we strongly believe that for now he is more experienced, more exposed, more connected and we believe that he would take us to the Bayelsa of our dream where equity, justice, fairness will be the order of the day.”

Also speaking, Chiefs Ebi Matthew Sunny- Goli and Jephthah Kalaiti Obadiah said the endorsement of Sylva as the candidate by the people of Nembe and Brass was long overdue.  They noted that Sylva has what it takes to develop Bayelsa.
