Nigerian cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, fondly called Bobrisky, has found himself at the centre of a social media storm, following a six-month jail sentence handed over to him on Friday.
Numerous comments flooded the internet shortly after the news broke, with many speculating about the real reason behind his heavy punishment.
Eniola Akinkuotu, in a viral post, pointed out that while Bobrisky could file an appeal seeking a lighter sentence, it’s likely he would have served the full six months before the appeal process is completed.
Additionally, Akinkuotu placed the blame on Bobrisky’s lawyers for advising him to plead guilty and allowing him to dress as a woman in court, a move that he argued potentially aggravated the judge and led to the severe sentence.
Ayebo Michael said Bobrisky’s extravagant dress code was the primary reason for his punishment, insinuating that the crime of naira mutilation was merely a facade.
Oluwatobi Fadipe echoed this sentiment, noting that Bobrisky could have avoided trouble if he had dressed more appropriately.
Prince Tope Eluyefa believed that Bobrisky’s actions exposed another side of him and ultimately led to his sentencing.
Amidst the calls for an appeal, opinions varied on the likelihood of success. Olukayode Thomas raised doubts: “I am not sure he will win the appeal and I think what’s going on is beyond Naira appeal, though I may be wrong.”
Folorunsho Tahir Hamsat emphasised: “She is good not dragging it further to avoid unnecessary escalation. There’s a law waiting to be tested o!”.
Badmus Ahmed reflected on Bobrisky’s downfall, insinuating that divine intervention played a role in his sentencing. Ahmed argued that Bobrisky’s punishment served as a reminder of God’s superiority.
