The Chairman of the Ukwa West Local Government Area chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Elder Kenneth Uju Nwarie, has harped on the need for the National Headquarters of the party to reward members that have demonstrated great loyalty to the party.
He also advised the party to verify the membership and claims of persons seeking political appointments in the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The President had, recently, constituted a Committee headed by the Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila tasked with the responsibility of getting new appointees for the dissolved government Boards.
In a statement made available to the press on Sunday, Nwarie described it as disheartening a situation whereby those that worked tirelessly for the party for many years would not be rewarded, whereas individuals who are merely card-carrying members of the party get government appointments just because they have money to relocate to Abuja for the purpose of reaping from where they did not sow.
He cautioned that patronising individuals, who never worked for the success of the APC, and also sabotaged the efforts of the party during the 2023 general elections, with political appointments would only serve as a catalyst towards distrust, mutual disharmony, and disintegration within the party.
The party Chairman regretted that some persons, who did not have anything to do with APC, had been given political appointments in the past to the disadvantage of the party, as such persons never carried members along, and only succeeded in fractionalising the party, stressing that the National Headquarters of the APC should, as a matter of deliberate action, liaise with the party Chairmen at the local government areas to ensure that authentic, reliable and functional members are appointed into the government.
Nwarie disclosed that members of his chapter of the party have confidence and trust in President Tinubu in rewarding loyalty and competence, adding that in the event core party members were denied political appointments, particularly as it affects the nomination into the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, it would definitely leave a lot of cracks on the Ukwa West chapter of the APC.
He also highlighted the fact that only the local government Chairmen across the country could give reliable recommendations on the records of party members in terms of electoral value, commitment, dedication and loyalty.
