It is atmosphere of disquiet in Niger state following the burning alive of a woman in Kasuwan Garba, Mariga local government area of the state on Saturday for alleged blasphemy.
Barely 24 hours after the incident, there is no statement from either the government or any of the religious bodies over kling of the woman who was accused to have committed blasphemous act after a man approached her for marriage.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Iman Forum and other religious forum in the state have kept a seal lips over the incident.
Apart from the Chairman of Mariga loca government area, Abbas Adamu Kasuwan-Garba who confirmed the incident and said normalcy had been restored in the town, there is no other official statement from the state government
Similarly, on Sunday, the public relation officer for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident saying that “On 30/8/2025 at about 2pm, report received indicated that one Amaye, a female of Kasuwan-Garba, Mariga local government area made some comments against the Islamic prophet.
“Unfortunately, it led to a mob attack and she was set ablaze before the reinforcement of the security teams”, he added.
He however said that “efforts are being made to ensure that arrests are effected, investigated and prosecuted”.
It could be recalled that Residents of Kasuwan-Garba town in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday evening lynched and set a woman ablaze over an alleged blasphemous remark against Prophet Muhammad.

A local source in the area who spoke under the condition of anonymity, said that the woman was first taken to the palace of the District Head of Kasuwan-Garba, for questioning over her alleged blasphemous comment.
After the interrogation at the palace, she was then handed her over to security operatives for further investigation of her alleged crime.
Not satisfied with the decision of the District Head, the mob seized her after overwhelmed the security operatives and lynched her to death before setting her ablaze
The lady, a Muslim faithful and a popular food seller in the area , was said to have engaged in a hot exchange of words with a young man, co-incidentally said to be her nephew.
According to unconfirmed report from the area, the young man was said to have jokingly told the deceased that he wanted to marry her to “fulfil the Sunnah”.
It was at that point that the lady was said to have made comments considered blasphemous which eventually led to her untimely death.
