BlackHorse Holding Company Limited has officially launched two industrial facilities in Kano: Crescent Rice Limited, a 400-metric-ton (MT) daily capacity rice mill, and Aminchi Bags Limited, a 240-ton monthly sack manufacturing plant.

The launch took place Wednesday at the Crescent Rice Mill facility in Danzaki. Both plants operate on a dedicated 3-megawatt (MW) sustainable, independent power solution designed to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing.

Originally established as a logistics and haulage provider—operating through subsidiaries such as Dangwauro Container Terminal—BlackHorse has served major clients including CMA CGM, Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, PIL Shipping, Ammasco International, Mamuda Industries, Ilera Group, and the Kaduna Refinery.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rahul Bakliwal, Managing Director of Crescent Rice Limited, noted that the expansion into agro-processing aims to strengthen Nigeria’s national food supply while tackling local packaging challenges.

Bakliwal detailed the mill’s phased growth: initially launching in 2024 with a daily capacity of 80 MT, the facility added two production lines in 2025 to reach 240 MT daily. With its latest expansion, the plant has achieved its target capacity of 400 MT per day.

Bakliwal also highlighted that three Crescent Rice products recently received the ARSO Dual Mark of Quality from the African Organisation for Standardisation, administered via the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), confirming compliance with the NIS ARSO 464:2017 standard.

Muhammad Sani Utai, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackHorse Holding Limited, reflected on the company’s expansion. “What began as an ambitious idea three years ago has transformed into a robust operation. Despite broader economic challenges, we remain on track to expand daily rice production capacity beyond 500 MT and plan to further diversify our processing capabilities with a groundnut and sorghum oil mill alongside our bagging operations,” Utai said.

The event brought together key stakeholders, financial institution partners, government officials, and local business leaders.
