Those we love never truly leave us. This is the consolation for the founder of The Address Homes, Dr. Olabisi Onasanya, following the passing of his beloved mother, Mrs. Selimot Olaleye Elizabeth Onasanya. Although heartbroken, the former Group Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria found solace in the fact that his mother indeed lived an amazing life.
The Onasanya matriarch peacefully transitioned to glory on November 16, 2023, at the ripe age of 88. But her children, especially Dr. Onasanya believed she should be celebrated for raising a wonderful family and for providing him alongside his siblings a solid foundation that enabled him to become a prominent banker and now, a real estate colossus. And that’s exactly what happened penultimate week when Onasanya accorded his mother, late Madam Elizabeth a befitting two-day celebratory burial. The event commenced with a wake-keep at Mama’s residence in Ijede, Ikorodu, on 13 December, setting the stage for an extravagant commemoration. It started with a solemn church service at Abundant Life Baptist Church, Ijede Road, Ikorodu on Thursday, 14 December, followed by a private interment ceremony at the Ikoyi Cemetery’s private wing. Despite its exclusivity, a cluster of close associates and friends who attended the church service still joined the Onasanya family at the burial site to celebrate the late virtuous woman. The pinnacle of the celebration unfolded at the prestigious Harbour Point, Victoria Island, where a grand reception gathered top dignitaries. With the music crooner, SB LIVE on the bandstand and popular comedian Gbenga Adeyinka as compere, Dr. Onasanya spared no expense in ensuring a memorable day for his guests. Guests were treated to a display of opulence, with carefully selected hors d’oeuvres, mouth-watering menus, and an abundance of champagne, cognacs, and exotic wines. The real estate colossus, dressed in stunning blue agbada, personally attended to every guest, ensuring everyone’s satisfaction. The venue’s elegance, adorned with kaleidoscopic chandeliers, reflected the meticulous planning of the organisers. Attendees revelled in a grand atmosphere of class and camaraderie, where the air buzzed with mirth and merriment.
