The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev Dr Mathew Hassan Kukah, has been scheduled to deliver the 36th Convocation Lecture of the University of Calabar.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Florence Obi disclosed this in her office during a pre convocation briefing.

She said Bishop Kukah’s convocation lecture will be titled “Harmonising Diversities For National Development”, will hold on Thursday this week at the University’s International Conference Centre.

She described the bishop as one man who has given his life not just for the service of God but that of humanity.

Professor Obi also disclosed that as part of the convocation activities, five projects executed largely by TETFund will be inaugurated by the Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman, alongside some TETFund officials.

She said the projects which comprises three pavilions and two hostels are worth over two billion naira.

She said about 32 students earned first class degrees and this is the highest number in the history of the institution.

Other are about 8,415 students who will earn first degrees, 438 with doctorate degrees and 754 Masters Degrees.

The award of degrees for undergraduates will come up on Friday this week while doctorate degrees will hold on Saturday.

She however said the number will change before the convocation ceremony as more results are coming in from the various departments.

In addition, three Nigerians will be awarded honorary doctorate degrees in appreciation to their contributions to the development of the society.
