Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and Minister for Foreign Affairs has urged Igbo people to remain calm and peaceful following the life imprisonment handed down to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Speaking at the 14th Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Memorial Day Celebration in Owerri, Ojukwu emphasised the importance of dialogue and peaceful means to resolve the issue, citing her late husband’s experience and release from exile through diplomatic efforts.

“We should not be angry and it is not an issue to resolve with knives, guns or fighting one another. This is the time to come to a roundtable and discuss.”

Ojukwu also lamented the lack of coordination among Igbo leaders, stating that South East governors and traditional rulers often work individually rather than collectively. She urged Igbo people to unite and work towards reclaiming their land and promoting peace.

The minister also expressed concern over the declining use of the Igbo language among young people and urged parents to teach their children their mother tongue to preserve cultural identity.

Meanwhile, she has eulogised Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, Founder of Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) and the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) for single handedly hosting the Ojukwu memorial day.

Kanu was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho after he was found guilty on all seven counts of terrorism offences. The seven counts against him relate to his secessionist agitations, acts of terrorism, membership of a proscribed group, killing of security operatives, destruction of public property, concealment, and the importation of an unregistered radio transmitter.
