B’Haram: Borno gov lauds private initiative to aid recovery process

Borno : Zulum admits mistakes in 2020 local polls

From Timothy Olanrewaju, Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Babagana  Zulum, has lauded initiatives by some private and non governmental bodies to aid the state recovery process especially in the education sector, after the decade-long Boko Haram devastation.

He gave the commendation in Maiduguri while receiving a block of four classrooms built by a company; Vitafoam Nigeria in a populated area of the capital once occupied by Boko Haram.

“We have suffered a lot in the past and many organisations have been coming to support the state but we’re happy an indigenous entity has come to help the state to aid our recovery process.”

The governor represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, said  the intervention by the company will hasten recovery of the state education sector which was the target of the insurgents since 2009.

Group Managing Director, Vitafoam, Taiwo Adeniyi, said the donation of block of classroom to a community affected by insurgency in Borno was part of the organisation’s corporate responsibility to the community where it trades.

He said the organisation targeted the primary education to build a foundation. He said aside the classrooms, students/teachers’ desks, chairs, modern board and books were provided to provide good learning environment.

“We are aware that basic education is key to the progress of any man. We believe once we have a solid foundation in education, the rest is history.  Once we get children out of the streets, then there won’t be young people to recruit for nefarious activities,” he stated.
