Veteran coach, Bitrus Bewarang, and ex-Super Eagles player, Onoriode Gold Omogufi, have added to the growing list of stakeholders who have endorsed ex-international, Benedict Akwuegbu, to head the next board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Election into key positions of the nation’s apex football ruling body is expected to be held soon following the mass resignation of the Ibrahim Musa Gusau-led board, recently.
Bewarang, who was a former chairman of Nigeria Football Coaches Association as well as a former NFF technical director, described Akwuegbu as a vibrant and hardworking ex-international, who has the capacity to redeem Nigerian football from its present quagmire.
“Benedict Akwuegbu has the capacity to end our football worries. He was a very successful player, holding a B.Sc. certificate, and currently studying to become a Nurse in the UK.

“Akwuegbu was fascinating while playing for Mighty Jets, JIB Rocks, and Plateau United Football Clubs in Jos before his glorious years in the Super Eagles and several other clubs abroad. He was also successful as a club administrator before forming his two clubs. His track records suggest that he will successfully manage the NFF if stakeholders back him and a few committed veterans”, declared the veteran tactician.
Also, ex-Eagles’ star, Omagufi, who is now a sports entrepreneur and talent hunter, advised ex-players, coaches, and other true lovers of football to give 100 percent support to Akwuegbu to emerge as the next NFF president.
Still ruing the Korea Japan 2002 World Cup miss, after sweating in the camp with the likes of Austin Okocha, Joseph Yobo, Wilson Oruma, and others, Omagufi decried the unprecedented dip in Nigerian football. He, however, expressed optimism that Akwuegbu has what it takes to steer Nigerian football back to its glory days.
“Apart from proper education Akwuegbu is a credible player manager, coach, and administrator. He is a true professional who carries everyone along in all he does. Let’s give our votes to an articulate and selfless ex-player, who plied his trade in different parts of the world’, concluded Omagufi who is looking forward to organising a mega youth football carnival in Delta State to promote peace in the state.
