The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has condemned the killing of a former councillor representing Rim Ward in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, Daniel Chong, and called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the group said the deceased, popularly known as Hon. Star, was killed during an attack on Torok village in Rim Community on Sunday night.
According to the statement, the attackers invaded the community at about 10:45 p.m. on August 2, 2026, opening fire on residents.
“The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, is saddened by another round of last night’s terror attack that claimed the life of a former legislator of Riyom Local Government Area, which we strongly condemn in its entirety,” the statement said.
Citing local sources, the association alleged that. Chong was shot dead by “suspected armed Fulani alongside hired bandits” who stormed the village.

The statement further claimed that the attackers, who reportedly came from Kess, a Fulani settlement popularly known as Bangai-Fulani, also shot and seriously injured Mr. David Danjuma before fleeing the area.
BYM expressed condolences to the family of the slain former councillor and the people of Torok Community, while wishing the injured victim a speedy recovery.
“We call on security agencies and the Plateau State Government, as a matter of urgency, not only to ensure the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of this terror attack but also to dismantle all terrorist enclaves, including Bangai-Fulani. Otherwise, Plateau State and its environs may continue to experience unrest,” the association said.
The group also renewed its call for an outright ban on open grazing, alleging that it had been repeatedly exploited as a cover for terrorism and banditry in Riyom and other parts of the state.
Describing the continued killings of innocent citizens in Plateau State as unacceptable, BYM urged security agencies to take decisive action to end the violence and bring those responsible to justice.
