The Commissioner for Health and Human Services in Benue State, Dr Paul Ogwuche, has commenced a statewide familiarisation visit to agencies under the ministry as part of efforts to strengthen coordination and improve healthcare delivery across Benue State.

At the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, the Commissioner was received by the Chief Medical Director, Dr Stephen Hwande, and his management team.

They briefed him on the hospital’s recent achievements, ongoing projects, and operational challenges, and he was later conducted round major facilities, including the Cancer Centre under construction, the Pharmacosurgical Complex, the Water Treatment Plant, and the VIP Clinics, among other critical sections of the hospital.

The Commissioner commended the BSUTH management for the remarkable transformation recorded in the last two years, describing it as a clear reflection of Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia’s commitment to strengthening healthcare in the state.

He added that the improvements demonstrate what focused leadership and proper coordination can achieve.
The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Beatrice Tswambu, the Directors of Medical Services, Public Health, Nursing Services, and the Head of the Public Relations Unit, along with other senior ministry officials.

The Commissioner also visited the Benue State Health Insurance Agency, the School of Nursing Makurdi, and the Benue State AIDS Control Agency (BENSACA).

Across all locations, the Commissioner explained that the visits aim to gain first-hand understanding of agency operations, identify critical gaps needing government intervention, strengthen collaboration, and ensure alignment with the state’s health sector priorities.

Ogwuche emphasised that the ongoing visits are part of a broader move to consolidate improvements and fully align the health sector with Governor Alia’s transformation agenda, which prioritises efficiency, accountability, and quality healthcare for all Benue residents.
