The Mutual Union of the Tiv in America (MUTA) has called for the urgent deployment of drone surveillance systems and the active involvement of Tiv youth in community-based security networks as part of a broader strategy to combat rising insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

The resolutions were announced at the close of MUTA’s 31st Annual Convention held in St. Louis, Missouri, themed “BEYONDNOW: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders.”

Delegates from across the United States and beyond gathered to address leadership development, unity, and the worsening humanitarian crisis affecting Tiv communities in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.

MUTA emphasized that drone technology and youth-led surveillance systems would significantly enhance early warning capabilities, intelligence gathering, and response to attacks—especially in rural areas vulnerable to armed herdsmen.

“The Benue State Government should establish locally driven, well-coordinated surveillance systems that actively engage Tiv youth in every community,” the union stated in its communiqué.

“We also urge the adoption of drone technology to improve real-time monitoring and deter threats across vulnerable areas.”

The union also demanded stronger enforcement of the Anti-Open Grazing Law and a comprehensive resettlement plan for displaced persons, including infrastructure and economic development initiatives to rebuild devastated communities.

Signed by Prof Akaa Daniel Ayangeakaa, President of MUTA, and Beeior Rov-Ikpah, Secretary, the communiqué reiterated the union’s call for coordinated local, national, and international responses to what it described as an escalating humanitarian emergency.
