Ahead of preparation to the 2025 Tiv Cultural Day and Summit, the Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC), known as “IJIR TAMEN,” an headed by the Tor Tiv, HRM Orcivighir, Professor James Ayatse has met and approved December for this years celebration.
The meeting of the Ijir Tamen, the highest decision‑making body in Tiv Nation, held at the Tor Tiv Palace, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
In attendance were the President General of Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, all the graded chiefs in Tiv land, the six first‑class chiefs and the 14 second‑class chiefs in Tiv speaking Local Government Areas.
Addressing the Ijir Tamen, the Tor Tiv expressed satisfaction and commended Mdzough U Tiv and the Central planning committee (CPC) for the work done so far, urging them to sustain the tempo.
He called all Tiv sons and daughters, home and in the diaspora, to support and attend the annual Tiv Cultural Day celebration in Gboko the headquarters of Tiv Nation.
After careful deliberations at the meeting, the Ijir Tamen headed by yr Tor Tiv approved this year’s Tiv Day celebration to hold between 10–13 December, 2025.
Earlier, the President General of Mzough U Tiv, Chief Iorbee Ihagh highlighted the major activities from day 1 to the last day to include but not limited to Tiv Essay competition, Tiv Women Summit, Tiv Youths Summit, Kwagh‑hir and puppet‑theatre competition, Folk‑tales competition, and round‑table discussion featuring three papers.
Others include Gesa u Avaan man Awange, Ukauka competition (group & solo), Mami Wota dance and masquerade parade of all kinds, Gesa u Ishiva, Ateratar Dar, Mou u Tan. He said the programme also had a agric how, oral poetry competition, award nights, Kumashe U Tiv Contest, Tor‑Kwaor contest, carnival procession, and many others.

President General commended the Central Planning Committee for their tireless efforts, assuring that this year’s Tiv Day will attract local and international houses, including Tiv TV live coverage across all social Media platforms.
Chief Ihagh sated that Tiv Day is not only a celebration and display of “our Rich Cultural Heritage but also a summit to brainstorm on the way forward and unity of the Tiv Nation, to attract development and dividends of unity.”
He called on Tiv sons and daughters to put in their best for the success of the day, by supporting the event in whatever little ways they can, urging them to also be in attendance throughout the period in their Tiv traditional attire.
Responding, the Central Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman, Prof. Tar Adejir, and Secretary General Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, Comrade Luther Iorbee, Chairman of the Finance Sub‑Committee, Dr. Terver Tule, Prof. Itwange of Agricultural show Sub Committee, and Dr. Dzerkaan Fanafa of Contact, Mobilization and Publicity Sub Committee, all called for harmonious working relationship among Tiv sons and daughters home and in the Diaspora to make this year’s Tiv Day celebration a success.
Prof. Adejir particularly acknowledged the Ijir Tamen headed by the Tor Tiv for the approval, the Mdzough U Tiv for their unflinching support, members of the Central planning committee for their unalloyed support and the sub‑committees for their dedication to the task given to them, and prayed God to continue to give them the needed strength to carry out the tasks.
