Executive Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba, said at the ongoing 29th Quarterly Meeting of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Management with Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs that the zone constructed 1,159 new classrooms and renovated 2,034 others in the North Central zone in 2025.

Dr. Adagba, who presented the North Central zone’s scorecard in her capacity as Dean of North Central SUBEB Executive Chairmen at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, Abuja, said the efforts has helped to reduce overcrowding in schools.

She added that the construction of toilets and boreholes has improved water, sanitation and hygiene conditions while 7,963 schools have been fenced  and 116,787 learner furniture provided to enhance school safety and learning environments.

Dr. Adagba also revealed that ECCDE centres have increased across the zone, while teacher training and textbook distribution have recorded major improvements. Classroom support has also been strengthened through deployment of community tutors and recruitment of additional teachers to bridge staffing gaps.

According to her report, other key developments include the conduct of a digital annual census, hosting of the Learners Support Programme flag-off and Basic Education summits, flag-off of TLMs and launch of project BRACE-UP which seeks to tackle the menace of out-of-school children.

She also called for renewed efforts from SUBEB chairmen, especially in areas of identification of out-of-school children and the digitisation of data systems, with support from UBEC and National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-school Children Education (NCAOOSCE). A significant highlight of the event so far was  the launch of the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAPMS) by UBEC.
