Benue: Shitile Rebirth Forum passes vote of confidence in Gov Alia, Wombo, others, condemns insecurity

From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

The Shitile Rebirth Forum (SRF), Katsina-Ala, has commended the Benue State governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, for his visionary leadership and developmental strides in the state.

The forum specifically appreciated the governor’s efforts in improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security in the Shitile Nation, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, and Benue State at large.

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ House in Makurdi on Saturday, the leader of the forum, Barr Manasseh Agboh, highlighted some of the notable achievements, including the upgrade of Shitile Community Secondary School to a full-fledged science and technical college, renovation of primary schools in Abaji and Tor-Donga, and payment of examination fees for students.

He named the revival of the Benue Links Nigeria Limited terminal in Katsina-Ala, the reduction of transport fares, and the construction of roads such as the Tor-Donga–Tacha Road, while acknowledging the governor’s efforts to improve emergency healthcare services, strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery, enhance security, and promote peace in the area.

The forum therefore passed a vote of confidence in Governor Alia; Prince Solomon Wombo, member representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency; Shaku Justine, chairman, Katsina-Ala LGA; and Comrade Alexander Fanafa, GM, Benue Links, among others, for their dedication to purposeful leadership and development of the state.

While appreciating their strides, the forum, however, expressed concerns over the security situation in the area and appealed to the government for the construction of the Tor-Donga–Zaki-Biam Road, Gbise–Degarr Road, and Abaji–Chir-Akera (Ibufu) Road to open up the area, enhance mobility, stimulate economic activities, enhance security, and eliminate criminal hideouts in the area.

The forum also requested the completion of the Abaji–Mbamtsar Road to ease access to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Annex, Mbamtsar, and the posting of more health workers to Primary Healthcare Centres across Shitile land to improve emergency healthcare services and strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery.

The forum condemned the heinous, barbaric, and criminal activities in parts of the area, which they said have threatened peace, development, and communal coexistence, and urged the Shitile Area Traditional Council to rebuke criminality firmly and prevail on their subjects to drop their arms.

Agboh expressed the commitment of the forum to supporting progressive leaders, policies, and administrations that prioritise security, education, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure, peace, and inclusive growth.

The Shitile Rebirth Forum (SRF), Katsina-Ala, is a socio-cultural organisation built on restoring hope, peace, and development in Shitile Nation. The communiqué, they said, is issued to the global community, national stakeholders, and the people of Benue State as a statement of position, commitment, and confidence in the purposeful leadership seen in the Fr Alia-led administration in Benue State.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, thanked the SRF for coming to the NUJ House, assuring the group of maximum publicity. He said, “As the umbrella body of journalists, we remain committed to providing a neutral and professional platform for democratic expression.”
