Benue State Police Command has arrested 31 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, rescued 11 victims. Commissioner of Police, Mr Emenari Ifeanyi, said: “No measure will be spared to crime prevention and the fight against criminals.
“We are deeply committed to justifying this immense investment by relentlessly pursuing our mandate of ensuing a safer and more secure Benue for all.
“I visited some black spots and redeployed some tactical team operatives. The command has imbibed community policing. Operatives at Orokam Division during their stop and search duty at Orokam junction by Obollo Afor road arrested three suspects, who are residents of Mararaba, Nyanya, Abuja. They confessed belonging to a gang of armed robbers terrorising the Orokam community and other communities in Enugu State. They were involved in robbing six flats at the Umukasi and 10 flats at St. Theresa, Nsukka.
“Police on surveillance patrol within Gboko LG arrested suspected armed robbers in their hideouts in Gboko East. Also, police team stormed robbers’ hideout and arrested two suspects while others fled.
“Police tactical team units repelled attacks by bandits in Guma, Ukum LGs and Ukohol community. Victims held hostage by armed herders were rescued unhurt by joint operations. Operation Zenda, Mobile Police, Operation SIS, joint operation with Ukum Division and civil protection guards destroyed five armed bandits’ camps along Dyom and Asom Amadu axis in Ukum LG.

“Police in Orokam and Katsina-Ala Division rescued five kidnapped victims. Also, operatives at Daudu Division arrested a suspected notorious kidnap kingpin from Yahembe Kwaagbee of Kwamaa village, Awe LG, Nasarawa State. He was intercepted at Ukpam junction and confessed to participating in kidnapping of two victims in Awe and collected N11 million ransom.
“Operatives arrested four suspects at Trailer Park, Orokam. We recovered 32 pieces of ICE, 27 pieces of kolos and 36 pieces of loud. An arrested suspect was found with a big bag of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. At checkpoint on Daudu-Ortese Road a suspect was arrested. Two suspected armed robbers were arrested at Benue Link Park, Makurdi and Daudu Motor Park.
“Operatives at Katsina-Ala Division arrested a suspect trafficking 11 children of different ages and genders to Benin, Edo State. The rescued children were reunited with their families.
“Operatives of Operation Zenda [JTF] arrested two suspects for armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, attempted culpable homicide, and act of terrorism. Two locally made pistols, five live rounds of ammunition and five stolen vehicles were recovered from various locations in Benue and Plateau states.”
Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Udeme Edet, added: “We urge the good people of Benue to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative by promptly sharing credible information with security agencies. Together, we will continue to safeguard our communities against criminal elements.”
