The Benue State Police Command said it has arrested a suspected bandit for allegedly conferring with criminal herdsmen and facilitating their attack on a village in Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Wale Abbas, stated this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday.
CP Abass explained that the suspect was seen along Taraba/Benue border wandering around in a suspicious manner before someone approached him.
According to the statement, “On 22/04/2023 at about 1230hrs one Ephraim Ternenge Iortser of Logo Local Government Area was seen along Taraba-Benue border wondering in a suspicious manner.
“During the investigation, the suspect confessed to having gone to the forest to liaise with criminal herders to pay him so that he can facilitate an attack on a village in Anyiin.
The CP said further investigation was ongoing to reveal more information about the suspect’s involvement in recent attacks and the possible arrest of other suspects involved in carrying out such heinous crimes.
