The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Obi state constituency, Mr Moses Egbodo, who was kidnapped last Monday, has been released after six days in captivity.
Mr Egbodo was contesting the 2023 state Assembly elections to represent his people of Obi constituency at the state Assembly come 2023.
Our correspondent gathered that he was kidnapped around 5pm on Monday, 23 October, 2022, between Aliade and Otukpo, while returning from Makurdi to Otukpo where he lives.
The abducted PDP candidate for Obi state constituency regained his freedom on Saturday, 29th of October, 2022 after ransome were paid to his abdustors.
The Chairman of Obi Local Government Area, Mr Tony Akpa, confirmed the incident.
Mr Akpa narrated that Egbodo was in a public transport heading to Otukpo when he was kidnapped.
“He was coming from Makurdi to Otukpo. He entered a commercial vehicle at the park and in between the Taraku burnt bricks before Otukpo, the kidnappers picked him and three others.
“They released him Saturday evening after some negotiations for ransom to be paid. They demanded for N4 million and they collected N3 million,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that Aliade – Makurdi express way has become a trap for motorists and passengers plying the road following activities of hoodlums who block the area, robbing and kidnapping at will and making life miserable for road users.
The Obi chairman expressed happiness that Mr Egbodo was released unhurt and appealed to the security agencies to beef security along the highways to ensure safety of motorists and passengers.
