In recognition of the unique leadership of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia of Benue state, the University of Port Harcourt in partnership with The Masses Renaissance Movement (TREM)have organised a public lecture in his honour him on the governance of the state.
A letter conveying the Vice Chancellor’s approval and signed by the deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Development,Professor I.M Siminialayi, explained in a statement on Thursday that the occasion was part of ceremonies to mark his one year anniversary in office.
The public lecture is scheduled to take place on the 6th of September 2024 at the CBN Centre of Excellence Auditorium, University of Port Harcourt.
Commenting on the significance of the public lecture which is taking place in one of Nigeria’s best universities, Dr Raymond Aor, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee( LOC) averred that the gesture by the University of Port-Harcourt to host the event is an endorsement of the Governor’s masses orientated political philosophy and model of governance which has brought succour to the teeming masses of Benue State.

Alia, a Catholic priest took the nation by storm when he contested and won a landslide victory in the 2023 general elections under the banner of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the Executive Governor of Benue State at the time when governance and the affairs of the State were at the lowest ebb.
According to the university don, the approved theme of the public lecture is :” New Democratic Paradigm: The Yes Father Approach to Mass-Centric Governance” with experienced resource persons tipped for the lecture, the Local Organising Committee further noted that the choice of the theme deeply resonates with what is going on in Benue State under the leadership of his Excellency Fr Dr Hyacinth Alia.
For a reputable Federal University like the University of Port Harcourt to find His Excellency, Rev Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia worthy of a public lecture in his honor clearly shows that the Governor has embodied a unique political philosophy and has so far performed in line with expectations of the people who voted him into office hence the need to create a platform where his ideas and vision will be exibited within the larger society.
The Plethora of awards and recognition accorded Governor Alia in recent times all over the world bears true testimony that his masses orientated model of governance has been very impactful and the unprecedented infrastructural projects currently ongoing all over Benue has set the Governor apart as a leader whose a unique approach to governance need to be understood and understudied by the larger society to entrench the ideals of democracy.
His focus on the welfare and well being of the people has ensured the prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity to Benue workers and retirees whose entitlements were denied for months under the past administration.
The Local Organising Committee therefore, urged lovers of democracy all over the country to create time out of their busy schedules to attend the public lecture to share deeper insights into the governance model of His Excellency Governor Hyacinth Alia come September 6,2024.
