Acting Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue State Chapter, Rev Jonathan Ugbede has debunked speculations that the Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia was planning to demolish the CAN secretariat in Makurdi, the state capital.
Rev Ugbede was reacting to speculations on the social media platforms that Governor Alia was intending to demolish the CAN secretariat in Makurdi.
He dismissed the speculation insisting that the Governor has not even contemplated on destroying the secretariat.
He expressed joy that the Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has already debunked the allegation describing the fake publication as malicious, false, baseless, and completely detached from the truth.
He recalled a statement by the Benue State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Solomon Iorpev who disclosed that Governor Alia, is a proud product of the Church and his administration has consistently demonstrated respect, support and partnership with religious institutions across Benue State, including CAN.
The Commissioner had insisted that there was no such plans describing it as falsely as it has never been conceived, discussed or contemplated by the government.
The acting CAN Chairman appreciated the Benue State Governor for his prompt response to the allegation and urged the political class not to drag the Church to the murky arena of politics.
Rev Ugbede further explained that Governor Alia has not only been sponsoring CAN activities but has also continued to foot the medical bills of Christians who are now physically strong among other things.
Ugbede, who wondered what the sponsors of fake news and those that spread it would benefit, called on sponsors of such fake news to desist from fabricating stories capable of creating tension in state.
He urged the Christian community in the state not to panic over the fake news but disregard it, insisting that it was fabricated mainly to create disunity and generate bad blood between the Church and the Governor.
Ugbede further called on the Christian community in the state to intensify prayers for the Governor, he also urged them to continue to support him to achieve more for the Benue people.
Ugbede who assured the Governor that the Benue Church was not affected by the fake news said the Church was solidly behind him just as their resolved to support him has remained unshaken.
