Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially commenced the celebration of the state’s Golden Jubilee earlier this week with a series of commemorative activities.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations, which began earlier this week with various insightful and commemorative activities, will reach their peak on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the iconic IBB Square in Makurdi.

A statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the week-long celebration will culminate this weekend with a grand finale marking 50 years of the state’s rich cultural heritage, resilience, and remarkable progress.

According to the statement, the landmark event will feature colourful cultural displays showcasing Benue’s rich diversity, ceremonial parades, and reflections on the state’s journey since its creation, highlighting its emergence as a major agricultural and political force in Nigeria.

The celebrations will continue on Sunday, June 28, 2026, as the state combines the Golden Jubilee festivities with the celebration of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s third anniversary in office and his 60th birthday.

The statement said since assuming office, Governor Alia has demonstrated an unprecedented commitment to his Benue First agenda, with a strong focus on infrastructural development, civil service reforms, economic revitalisation, and human capital development.

“To commemorate these significant milestones, an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service will be held at IBB Square, Makurdi, commencing promptly at 9:00 a.m.

“Members of the public are warmly invited to participate in these historic celebrations as Benue State reflects on its achievements over the past five decades and looks forward with renewed hope to an even brighter future.”
