A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Ladan Salihu, has cautioned Nigerians against accepting statements made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the party’s ongoing convention venue dispute in Abuja.

Speaking ahead of the ADC national convention, Salihu dismissed claims that the party failed to make a formal request to use Eagle Square, insisting that necessary contacts were made with relevant authorities and stakeholders connected to venue security and management.

He alleged that despite these engagements, the party was still denied access to major public facilities, including Eagle Square and other key venues in the Federal Capital Territory.

“This is the shame of the nation, that the main opposition party is denied the privilege and right to hold a convention at Eagle Square,” he said.

Salihu further rejected the FCT Minister’s position, stating that Wike’s account of events was inaccurate and misleading.

“Don’t believe what the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is saying. What he is saying is totally incorrect,” he added.

He, however, confirmed that the ADC convention would go ahead as scheduled, stating that the event would now be held at the Rainbow Event Centre in Area 8, Abuja.

According to him, the party remains confident despite the challenges encountered in securing a preferred venue, adding that preparations for the convention have been concluded.

“We are good to go for our convention tomorrow and are very upbeat about the outcome. We are not bothered by all the issues leading up to the challenges we have faced,” Salihu said.
