Olympic silver medalist and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Blessing Oborodudu yesterday crashed out of the Word Wrestling Championships holding in Belgrade.
Oborodudu, a 10-time African champion, chasing her first world championship medal, was leading 2-0 but eventually lost the 68kg bout to Asian bronze medalist, Delgermaa Enkhsaikhan who scores a takedown to win by criteria.
Seeded N0 3 for the championship, Oborodudu’s hope of adding a world championship medal to her intimidating medals kitty was truncated in the quarterfinals.
Also luck was not on the side of Esther Kolawole fighting in the 57kg weight class who lost out in the quarterfinals to Zhala Aliyeva of Azerbaijan.
Kolawole, a world U23 bronze medalist, was leading Aliyeva 13-12 but a go behind with just 8 seconds remaining saw the Azerbaijani tumbling the points to 14-13 to win.
Enroute to the quarterfinals, Kolawole had earlier dispatched European bronze medalist Sandra Paruszewski from Germany after trailing 2-2 before scoring a step out 28 seconds left in the match.
