I have not read any book, where someone is contesting that it is not Got that created man himself or by someone else. The Bible states unequivocally that it was God, the Almighty God, Who created man. Yes, the Almighty God and not the ones worn on the neck and fingers or the ones hidden inside a lady’s handbag or in the pockets of trousers. For sure, not the type I used to have when I was an unbeliever, which thieves stole from my house as I have written in this Column before.
Yes, it is about the God, before Whom, all other gods bow. I mean the Living God, Who understands what everyone is saying, though they are all speaking at the same time, be they English, Indian, Chinese, German, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani, Igbo, Efic, Nupe, et cetera! I am not talking about the god that is given legs by human imagination and it cannot walk, or given mouth but it cannot speak, and eyes, yet, it cannot see. That was the miserable god I bought for protection but it could not protect itself when thieves broke into my kitchen, during the Civil war, and stole it. Chai!
The God the child of God serves is thus different from man-made gods. His security lies on the fact that His Father knows everything about him. It does not matter whether the Electricity Company gives him light or leaves him in darkness. His fate remains God, Who knows him and also, everything that surrounds him. The implication of this is threefold, protection by God, knowledge of the wrong things he does and also, knowledge of the good things he does.
The devil and his agents waste their time, when they plot evil against him. Imagine a situation, where a recruit in the Army plans evil against the son of a General and the General is aware of it. Will his son be shaken, no matter the intimidating threats of the recruit? Will he lose sleep any night when his dad’s guards are more than enough to handle the recruit? Uncle David seemed to understand this, hence he said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,” Psalm 23:4. His reason is based on the assurance of God’s promise, ”Thou are with me”.
The implication is the absolute security of a child of God. It does not matter, what his status is the society. He can be the Chief Executive Officer of a blue-chip company or their messenger, the story is the same. God will protect him in winter and in summer. It is futile for anyone to plan evil again a child of the Kingdom. Those, who tried it, are either dead or are living in regret. King Saul, in the Bible, would have lived and reigned longer, had he known this and left David alone. He, like many leaders, forgot that it was God, Who chose him and made him the king, when he was not born in a kingly family. Mad ambition, to his detriment, made him to abandon his kingly responsibilities in pursuit of David, the man God testified that he was after His heart.
If God formed me in the womb, it is certain, therefore, that He knows everything about me. It includes every thought in my heart and everything that I do. My unbelieving friends can be doing certain ungodly things, God will also know, if I join them. He will know also, should I follow them in every place they go, though other people may not know. This places a great responsibility on me concerning my conduct, by day or at night. I have no place to hide for the sins I commit. God is aware of them, right from the time I am conceiving them in my heart.

It is very possible for a man to be sending his spouse and children every year to the US and from there, they will travel to Britain, and they will appreciate him. During his birthday, his wife will accord him with the title of the ‘Best husband on earth’, while the children award will be, ‘The best dad on earth’. Nobody will know that it is not really as an act of love or because of his financial affluence but to give him the opportunity of settling with their house maids or secretaries in the office. Strangely, such men can be found in the Church. It does not matter the type of reasons someone can give for the various things he does, the motive is clear to God. I repeat that there is no place to hide from Him!
Many years ago, a lady on the payroll of our Church came to me to plead that we allow her to be sleeping in her office in the Church, stressing the sufferings she was undergoing from her mistress. I was touched in the spirit, imagining how she would be sleeping there. “Which husband will marry a lady sleeping in her office?” I asked myself. I went home and told my wife. We decided to accommodate her. The next day, imagining her excitement, I told her. I was surprised that she turned down the offer. Someone then told me that one of the boys we accommodated on the Church compound was her boyfriend.
The hidden truth was that what she was seeking really was not a better accommodation, where she would be enjoying free food, but a place, good or bad, close to the youth, so that both of them would be sleeping in her office. Imagine! Had I accepted her request, nobody might know the evil thing they would be committing on the Church compound. They might, in celebration of their trick, think that they had deceived us, and they did really. They did not, however, deceive God, the Payback Master, Who sees everything we do!
One of things I learnt from the Scripture Union, as a young convert was that God knows everything I was doing. When we visited to rejoice with a family that had a new-born baby, we would hide under their pillow, without their knowledge, any money we wanted to give them. They would not know and would not appreciate us, but God, Who sees in secret, had seen us. Students of Ovim Girls Secondary school, who were very close to my heart from the day I ministered to them when I was in the university, sent me money by post without disclosing their identity. Suspecting that the money was sent by them, I thanked them the next time I went to minister there and they accepted. That was how I confirmed that the money was from them but God knew, even before they sent it.
It guides the believer in giving his offerings and paying his tithe. Some Church members do not pay their tithes or may not pay completely. They are not cheating anybody but God. I belong to a Local Assembly where tithe records are kept. We do not announce pledges members make. We teach our members that as God knows the pledges each person makes, it is okay for us. Reward from God is more important than that by man.
