Beatrice Chinyere breathes new life into Flora Nwapa’s “Efuru” at LASU

 

 

The Department of Theatre Arts & Music, Lagos State University has successfully hosted “An Evening of Play and Art Performance” featuring Flora Nwapa’s play, Efuru alongside a special appearance by Beatrice Chinyere Ugochukwu.

“An Evening of Play and Art Performance,” a remarkable cultural event held on July 14, 2024, at the Department’s Main Hall, LASU Main Road, Ojo, Lagos State.

The evening brought together students, faculty members, theatre enthusiasts, and members of the wider community to celebrate the richness of Nigerian literature and the dynamism of contemporary performance art.

The highlight of the event was a captivating stage presentation of Flora Nwapa’s iconic work ‘EFURU.’ The adaptation breathed new life into Nwapa’s groundbreaking novel, delivering powerful performances that honoured her legacy as a pioneer of African women’s literature.

Through expressive acting, music, dance, and visual storytelling, the cast successfully transported the audience into the world of Efuru, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
