The final engagement of a month-long beach football soccer championship has come to an end at the Moonshine Residence, Uru, Umudim Nnewi, Anambra State with Moniepoint team as the winner of the tournament.

The finals came up after about one month of exciting competition among twelve teams drawn from various outstanding industrial giants in Nnewi which later narrowed down to Tummy Tummy noddles team and Moniepoint microfinance bank players who locked up horns for the finals.

Moniepoint thrashed Tummy Tummy five goals to four and became winner of the trophy along with a cash prize of N100,000 while Tummy Tummy was given a consolation prize as the runner-up.

Costa Mmuoma who scored twelve goals in the competition won a prize in the category of the highest goal scorer.

The director of projects in the tournament, Mr Emeka Ralph said it was an exciting final, noting that the two teams merited their positions.

“You can see the comeback bid of the Tummy Tummy guys. They were three goals down before they now came up to this level, before the final whistle.

“Like you saw, I have discovered talents here. We’re not going to let them go like that. The talents will be harnessed. We’re going to use them for the next level. That’s our plan. This is the final, we have ended for the year. If there’s anything that will come up after this, you will be informed. We have discovered about six talents already, ” said Mr Ralph also called Sarafi by his fans.

The Moniepoint team captain, Mr John Ekene attributed his team’s victory to being focused and consistent.

“We won 5-4 against Tummy Tummy. It was not easy as the competition was on. But we remained focused on the game with the aim to win and that favoured us.

“We’re ready to play at any level or even represent the South East. Determination remains the secret of our success, ” Mr Ekene said.

Royal father of the day, the Obi of Umudim, Obi Benneth Okafor who did the kick-off congratulated the two finalists. He expressed happiness that beach football played in the Western World had been brought to Nnewi by one of the sons of the industrial community and the proprietor of the Moonshine Residence, Professor Victor Mmadubuko based in the US.
