Big Brother Naija Season 11 winner, Temi Nkem, has revealed how she remained determined to compete for the top prize despite being told that contestants who come from abroad rarely win the reality show.
Temi shared the experience while reflecting on her journey after emerging as the winner of the competition.
According to her, comments about the chances of contestants from abroad initially made her question her prospects in the show.
She, however, decided to focus on enjoying the experience and showing her personality rather than allowing the doubts to affect her.
“Obviously coming into the show, if you guys heard, a lot of times people were telling me how people really who come from abroad, they don’t really win the show. Like you might, you might not have a chance,” she said.
Temi said the comments eventually made her adopt a different approach to the competition.
“So as I was hearing that, I was thinking, you know what? Might as well just have my fun. Still, the show was called Show Yourself. So I might as well still show myself,” she added.
The 21-year-old finance graduate said she was ultimately surprised that her decision to remain herself throughout the competition led to victory.
“So that’s what I did. And guess what? I still won,” Temi said.
She used her experience to encourage others to pursue their goals despite doubts or discouragement from people around them.
“If that is not determination to you guys, courage for you guys to do, just do whatever you want to do,” she said.
“Do whatever you put your heart on, continue to do what you need to do, pray, everything. You’ll be sorted. You’ll be good.”
Temi also recalled one of her favourite moments in the BBNaija house, when she won the BET Power Friday Arena Game.
She said she had not expected to win the challenge and initially believed she was simply participating for fun.
“Because guys, let’s not lie, who thought that I was going to win? Because I didn’t think I was going to win. I thought I was there for fun,” she said.
Temi said winning the challenge and seeing her fellow housemates celebrate with her became one of the moments she would happily relive.
The BBNaija winner also disclosed that she intends to invest part of her prize money in her future and return to school to complete her degree.
“I’m going to be investing a lump sum of the money, because I need to invest in my future,” she said.
Temi added that she still hopes to build a career in finance while continuing her education.
